It was started in 1975 by Fr. Majjion. By then he was Fr. In charge of Ichagaki Parish. Then from there Fr. Paul came and completed the church construction.
The church was officially opened in 29th December 2007 by Cardinal John Njue and at that time fr. Peter Ngochi was the In charge of Maragua Parish.
From Maragua the Gathera Local church is about 12 km.( Maragua town-Gakoigo-Nginda girls-Ihumbu then Gathera.
